2022 GMC Canyon: AT4, Release Date, Redesign, Specs

2022 GMC Canyon: AT4, Release Date, Redesign, Specs. The new 2022 GMC Canyon is probably the last edition of the current generation. The 2022 YM was set to bring big changes and start the next-gen series. Meanwhile, the truck is going to be available in three trim levels. Elevation Standard is the entry-level model, and it can be turned into Elevation. The AT4 is one of the best models in the mid-size pickup segment if you want to go off-road. On the other hand, if you seek for more luxury, then Denali is the right choice.

Trim levels are not the only thing buyers can choose cab configuration, bed lengths, and engines. Extended and Crew cab is at disposal, while the second one can get long and short boxes. A wide choice of engines is making GM pickups different from others. The base version is using a four-cylinder unit, another petrol drivetrain is V6, while the 2022 GMC Canyon is also coming with a diesel configuration. Combine it with the AT4 package, and you are getting a mean off-road vehicle.

Specs

Only the Elevation model will offer a four-cylinder engine. A 2.5-liter unit can produce 200 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. Still, you will need upgrades to select any other trim level. That, a V6 is going to increase the towing capacity to 7,000 pounds. A 3.6-liter is producing 308 hp and 275 lb-ft and every model will offer this powerplant. The most impressive numbers are delivered by trucks using a diesel drivetrain. A 2.8-liter Duramax is producing 180 hp and 370 lb-ft. This is enough to make Canyon the best mid-size pickup for towing. It sets the bar at 7,700 lbs (same as Chevy Colorado diesel). Jeep Gladiator with the larger displacement is doing only 7,650 pounds.

Highlights of the most affordable model are a 7-inch touchscreen, power driver’s bucket, 17-inch wheels, and locking tailgate. The upper version, Elevation, will improve the offer with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, larger multimedia display, Wi-Fi, and tilt-telescoping steering wheel. The price difference is around $2,000. The AT4 truck will use only a 4 × 4 system with off-road shocks and suspension. Skid plates are protecting the underbody and transfer case. A v6 petrol unit is a standard drivetrain, while the best performance is coming with the 2.8-liter Duramax oil-burner. The first impressions are very positive and it seems like the 2022 GMC Canyon AT4 is going to be a big rival to Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. It is also a mechanical twin of the Chevy Colorado, but the new vehicle will draw more attention. We expect even more from the next-gen pickup arriving in 2022.
