2022 Mazda BT-50 Specifications
At this moment, we know the 2022 Mazda BT-50 will come with two diesel units as choices for most markets. A 3.0-liter is the turbo-four with updated specs, while a 1.9-liter mill had a debut in India early in 2021. Fans can expect a few more additions. Well, the BT-50 never had a petrol configuration. Maybe it is time for Mazda to think cleaner. The Skyactiv technology is making their oil-burners environmental-friendlier. Still, not good enough if BT-50 wants to test capabilities in bigger markets. A hybrid based on a diesel setup is another option. The Japanese company wouldn’t be the only one that plans such a move. Toyota is expected to add a diesel hybrid to its Hilux in 2022.
Until we get more details about new developments, the truck will still use the abovementioned powertrains. A 3.0-liter turbodiesel is good for 140 kW and 450 Nm (187 horsepower and 330 pound-feet). That is on par with most rivals. We can say the BT-50 is in the golden mean, with a few trucks available with more or less power and torque. A 1.9-liter model is not going to be available in all markets. With 150 horsepower (110 kW), it replaces an old 2.2-liter drivetrain. This is a surprise since the Skyactiv-D technology made it pretty clean. Mazda even added this unit to some of the US models. While a 1.9 is replacing a 2.2 displacement, the largest engine in the previous lineup, 3.2-liter, is not coming back for the BT-50.
Where to Buy 2022 Mazda BT-50?
We wanted to see the truck in more markets. But, Mazda and Isuzu don’t want to compete with each other. The competition is tough. Japanese pickups we see dominate in the US have their siblings across the ocean. The match for Toyota Tacoma is Hilux, and Nissan replaced Frontier with Navara. So, the market for the 2022 Mazda BT-50 will be pretty limited. The truck is not coming to Europe. It leaves fans in Pacific Asia, Australia, and the Middle East with exclusive rights of buying Mazda’s pickup.
There are plenty of options to configure the 2022 Mazda BT-50. Of all, you need to select the proper cab configuration. The single cab is reserved only for the chassis layout and it can be upgraded with the 4 × 4 drive. A 4 × 2 is standard in most cases. Freestyle cab comes with a similar offer, but seating capacity for five persons. The dual cab is using both chassis and pickup layouts.
The second one will be available in a few trim levels. Buyers in Australia will find it as XT, XTR, or GT model. The base offer includes halogen lights, body-colored mirrors, a standard air-condition system, and 4-speaker audio. The XTR upgrades the offer with a larger infotainment screen, more speakers, dual-zone climate control, side steps, LED lamps, fog lights, and larger wheels.
The 2022 Mazda BT-50 GT is top of the class version. It comes with 4 × 4 replacing RWD. Transmission is manual. Exterior mirrors are heated, as well as front seats. Leather replaces cloth inside the cabin. Driver’s bucket is getting power and lumbar adjustment system. The front, there are also parking sensors at the back of the truck.
Mazda made a big step by breaking a partnership with Ford. The new era started and expectations are huge. Nevertheless, but mission out on making big difference in front fascia styling between SUVs and its only truck, fans believe the pickup is not a top priority.
